StrataLogica Geography Reference Released as Free iPad App
- By Sharleen Nelson
- 01/29/13

The StrataLogica reference tool for iPad
|
Herff Jones/Nystrom has released a new geography reference tool for the Apple iPad. The new app, which debuted at the FETC 2013 conference taking place in Orlando, FL this week, is a free application that offers users a sampling of StrataLogica's interactive layers of geography, history, and earth science content for the K-12 classroom.
The new app will serve as a companion to its Google Earth-powered StrataLogica, an interactive, Web-based site launched in 2009 for use with computers, projectors and interactive whiteboards. Students experience a rich, immersive learning environment across several disciplines via multilayered 3D maps, reference and history maps, atlases and charts, and an educational community that allows instructors to share lesson plans and presentations.
Current users of the desktop Web applications can access and interact with the content they have created and found in the community.
Although the iPad application is free to download, users must sign up to gain access to Stratalogica's communities and other content available on the Web site.
The software requires iOS 6 or later.
Herff Jones/Nystrom is exhibiting in booth 1309 at the FETC conference. Additional product details can be found on Herff Jones/Nystrom StrataLogica site. The StrataLogica app for iPad can be downloaded for free at the Apple App Store.

Systemchange.ca is an excellent collection of short videos addressing climate change, especially created for use in the lead up to, during and in the aftermath of the UN climate talks in Durban, South Africa, this November 28-December 9:
"The popular slogan: "system change not climate change" has become central to a growing and vibrant global movement for climate justice. But what does "system change" mean? And what does it have to do with the climate crisis? This project,www.systemchange.ca, features videos from a range of speakers including academics, workers and activists who address these questions, talk about why we need system change, and give examples of new ways forward.
www.systemchange.ca is a free, public, interactive website featuring over 25 videos."
Currently, the videos require internet connection to play, but there will soon be a download link.

Global Citizenship: World Vision - Lessons and Resources - Kindergarten to Grade 8
World Class is a free interactive web-based program for elementary and middle school classes. It is built on fundamental principles of global education: engage students to think critically about global issues; support and encourage them to act on new understandings; and extend their learning through reflection on the change in their values, perspectives and behaviours.
World Class builds skills students need to be responsible citizens, participating in and contributing to their communities while examining the world through a social justice and sustainability lens. The learning and reflection in this program involves thinking critically about issues of fairness, equity, diversity and community life, as well as complex social and global issues. Students will ask why children go hungry in the world, do not attend school or get sick from water-borne disease. And they will want to do something about it.
